Peathag
I have been the proud owner of a Benelli Supersport for 12 months now but after a bad bout of poor recycling (all the hatsan owners will be laughing now) it has been sent back to GMK who in turn have sent it back to the factory in Italy to have a new reciever fitted. The metal finish inside the receiver in the bolt runners had started to flake and peal off thus preventing perfect movement and causing the problem with recycling. So that is now likely to be away until the next millenium so I asked my local ground for a lend and they very kindly lent me a second hand Beretta AL391. Not my choice of an auto but never the less a good little gun. I decided to put it through it's paces with several rounds of clays and a slab of Prima's. The gun performed very well on the whole but covered my hands in loads of **** with it being gas operated - good job I was wearing my glasses too. I had a little chuckle to myself while waiting to shoot a round of DTL as I was listening to a couple of nice chaps talking about sticking new trigger springs in their Perazzi's and how his new stock was designed for him when he went to the Perazzi factory - christ knows how much that would have cost, but nevermind if I had the money I would probably treat myself to a Perazzi also. As it turned out these chaps were on the next squad with me, so away we went with the 391 spitting its empty cases about 15 ft to my right to my embarrassment (the Benelli neatly drops them about 4ft away and slightly forwards as a rule) but nevermind we carried on and after shooting my first station I decided just to load one round because I couldn't be ***** with all the clinking and clanking of laoding and unloading. My first few clays were poor breaks until I got a little more used to the lighter weight of this gun and then they got better and I finished up with a very nice 25/75. The other two chaps didn't fair as well despite their very fine guns and tailor made stock, but it just goes to show that you don't always need the best equipment even though it is nice to have, but an old Beretta which smelled of cat poo after each shot by the way can still do the biz provided of course it is pointed in the right place. I guess my point is we can get too hung up on smaller details and look for things and spend a fortune on after market products and accessories that might just give us the edge over the next man but in the end that gun still has to be pointed by a human being and that is where the fault lies - me included. JR1960
If people spent as much time and energy on the odd refresher lesson now and again instead of worrying about perfect fit (although i grant you it does need to fit) chokes, cartridges, loads, shot size etc etc they'd hit a lot more. I must admit I used to be as guilty as the rest years ago, but nowadays as long as it goes bang i'm more worried about where i'm pointing it than anything else. Now the weather's getting better i hope to get a few lessons in to get my eye in again.

Yeah your right a few quid on lesson's is always money well spent - I intend to have a few myself this year with a couple of different chaps for different disciplines. I am not knocking the two gentleman who I shot with either as I have adorned my Benelli with a 6 oz mag weight, ext bolt handle, etc for better better performance - in my own mind.
