bicykillgaz
hi i've not been out much this year due to injuring my back at work, i've been taking it easy and trying not to rush back before im ready. anyway yesterday i nipped to see my usual partner in crime to see if he fancied coming lamping last night but he'd had a long day digging his alotment and wanted an early night, i decided i'd leave it till morning and risk taking a steady cycle. i got up at 4.30 and was out the house at 5am travelling light just my rifle, 50 eley subs a couple of breakfast bars and a capri-sun, it was bloody cold on the old ears as we'd had a good frost, i got to my first paddock at 5.15 and it was still pretty dark but i could just make out some bunny shaped things dotted about. they're having some kennels made at the minute so i got settled tucked in behind a tonne bag of sand and realised id forgotten my sticks. i waited till about 4.20 before loading up the .22lr and scanning the paddock saw a rabbit about 30yrds away and squeezed one of to hear the crack of eley and skull. carried on scanning and found my next target but snatched it and missed, the rabbit didn't seem to bothered and let me have another go and that was two down. i snatched at the next one too but i'll blame it on my fingers been frozen. couple of minutes later i'd got my third then everything went quite so i decided to try another bit of land down the road. there was a few playing right down the far end so decided to get tucked into the hedge and make my way down there. didn't dawn on me at the time but they was down wind of me and scarpered. i made my way to the end of the hedge and started to cut across when i saw movement in the next field, had a look through my scope to confirm it was a fox. i gave a squeek, well i puckered up and made a kissing sound at it which got its attention to my surprise, i gave a couple more of varying lengths and it started running my way. then it stopped i gave another and it came straight at me again which i wasn't expecting as i was croutching in full view leaning on a paddock fence, every time it stopped i blew it another kiss it got to 30yrds so i aimed where its neck met its chest and squeezed my shot off and it dropped. when i got over i put another shot in it but it wasnt needed he was stone dead. it was fairly young dog but was fairly heavy. it was well worth risking the trip out, i've been out zeroing a couple of times but this is the first time shooting anything live this year so i finally got to christen my boyds stock too, not a bad way to do it. atb gary
