Ernest
Hi all Newbie on here and I'm looking for some insight if anyone can help. I am getting my first visit from the FEO for a shotgun cert next week. My cabinet is in place and away from my kids. Just wondering. What questions he will ask me and what the process from there is if anyone can help. Cheers Chris
Bloke
Nothing to trap you, he will just want to assure himself that you are not an idiot or a danger to anyone. Evidence of shooting lessons will help, may ask you some questions about safe handling of shotguns etc and what experience you have. He will really want to be sure that no-one except you, particularly with young ones in the house, knows where the keys to your cabinet are. He may also want to know what your partner feels about having guns in the house. Tea and biccys always help lubricate the process Good luck. bedwards1966
He'll run through your application correcting any errors if you made any, and will have a general chat. He'll ask you a few questions to make sure you aren't a psycho, check your cabinet is secure and will ask you some basic safety questions, such as checking guns are unloaded when handed them, safe shot fallout distance (say about 290 yards), nothing major. Most of the interview is spent listening to what they have to tell you about firearm security, what you can and can't do, safety and so on. Just sit back and listen, you might learn some useful stuff. They tend to be helpful - and don't be afraid to ask anything. Welcome to Pigeon Watch. They are just checking you are moderately sane. Whereabout are you?
Ernest
Cheers guys. All a bit new to this only been a couple of times and that was at game fairs but loves it. Going to a clay shoot on Sunday also. My father in law was a keen shoot and still has some contacts in Scotland so may get chance of a jaunt up there too. I'm based in Berkshire
