Ferretboy111
Hello all Anyone had any success with sweet clover? I'm thinking about combining kale/sweet clover on some of my shorter width covers. What row width do you drill at also? Any help appreciated Cheers A
scolopax
Had it as part of a mix that was broadcast. Does near enough nothing in its first year, looks just like..err....clover, but in the second year it grows to six feet or more. When it dies off it forms a dense thicket of thin woody stems. So I would say, drill it very wide, 24" at least, maybe even 36". Once it is established it lasts for quiet a few years, but if I remember correctly we got one high year, one low year, one high year etc. Maybe mix it with some chicory so you have cover during the low years. Handy to put in an awkward patch that can then be 'forgotten' about. It will need feeding to get the best out of it. I would say it is similir to artichokes in that it can create an 'instant' spinney.
