mickmep
afternoon All. would i be correct in thinking that a section 1 (fac) semi auto shotgun will still need to have a minimum barrel length of 24" the same as a non fac semi auto ? my understanding is a fac shotgun with a barrel under 24" becomes section 5 (prohibited). my understanding is also that a o/u or sxs can have a barrel length of less than 24" if it on a section 1 is this correct ? i'm also assuming that if the barrel is under 24" but has an extended choke that fits on the end to make it over 24" then this choke will have to be welded in place to make the shotgun legal. ie. if it was possible to make the barrel under 24" by removing the external choke then that would be how the barrel was measured :look: hope this makes sence.... for example my spas 12 has the extended choke welded in place so is not removable and makes barrel legal length, even though it was a s1 shotgun. bedwards1966
You've got it all correct, a barrel extension keeping a gun over the length must be permanent - effectively as you say, welded. A pump or semi must have a barrel of no less than 24" and be a minimum of 40" in total length. It is section 5 if it's not within those specifications.
