Muntjac stalking on offer

Recommended Posts

Just like to add a few words to this thread to express what a fantastic day I had Saturday with Alex and the guys a Belvoir Castle.

I arrived very early for my evening stalk and received a fantastic welcome. I was shown around some of the ground that would be stalked and had the proceedings explained to me. I am a complete novice stalker but was quickly made to feel at ease and was given time to have a play with the estate rifle with no pressure.

After a few cups of tea and a chinwag in the beaters hut, it was time to get into a high seat. On the way to the high seat there was a roe buck strolling about, but he was left well alone and we carried on to the seat. There were slits all over the place and upon arrival at the destination a munty just disappeared into cover as we approached. We sat for a while but unfortunately saw nothing but a couple of rabbits paying a visit to one of the feed stations. Alex and I both thought it best to move on, so one of the rabbits was taken to get my eye in and we went on our way.

I was moved on to the seat with the fantastic view shown above as a few had been spotted there earlier. The sunset from this location was fantastic! I didnt get a shot at a muntjac from this seat either, but again there was a lot of evidence that they had been there recently. Two were shot there this weekend, but it wasnt my day. So I didnt get a shot at my first deer, but I will be back there as soon as possible to have another go. I did get to let one or two rounds off after dark though

Alex and the guys there are absolutely brilliant hosts, I was made to feel very welcome and my lack of experience wasnt an issue. I would not hesitate for a second to recommend a day or two at Belvoir with Alex to anyone. Next time I go will be at least two outings, maybe three.
