Guest cookoff013
yeah, different people have different perceptions what ammunition should do. buy a box to try, its not like you have to use them forever until the end of time.
bicykillgaz
Your probably all right, if I find somewhere that actually stocks them i'll get a box and see how they are for my self If anyone local has got a box I've got some gamebore 'traditional game' 28g no5's to exchange. fieldwanderer
I thought the felt recoil was related to the weight of the load as opposed to the size of the shot? If I were experimenting with this, especially given the relatively short range, I think I'd be sticking with 6's but a lighter load - possibly 24g? Maybe through a fairly tight choke for the range too, 1/2 at a guess. (I guess that would make it a bit hit OR miss but at least it's a bit more humane) Only my opinion though and if I'm honest I'm more of a rifle shooter really so I may be completely wrong

(I guess that would make it a bit hit OR miss but at least it's a bit more humane) Only my opinion though and if I'm honest I'm more of a rifle shooter really so I may be completely wrong it is a factor in a huge list of things. as its for game there is a "ethical" minimum shotsize. 1, reduced shot weight reduces recoil. 2, reduced speed reduces recoil. 3, heavyer gun, reduces recoil. but in principal, they dont make 21g #6s or 21g#5 as the shotcount is too low. so either make the shells slower or buy slower shells, isnt allways possible. most manufacturers try to get the fastest shells, so there is limited availability, especially locally. throwing some lead in the gunstock (synthetic) is an option, but can ruin the handling charicteristics. i`ne done it with a supernova shooting 3" shells. but made the muzzel flip really silly. its ideal to homeload, as with the same components, often there is a variety of shells available in the different quantities. for instance. with the components we have available we can have... 12-70mm cx2000 vectan AS 20mm fibre 4mm powder card lead 24g fast load 28g slow and fast load 30g slow load 32g subsonics all with the same components. just by buying shotsize 6 makes good sense, but 5 for most applications from partridge /game. subs are a slightly different subject, but i`ve said enough on that subject.
