Templar 84
They say that you never stop learning; After the standard 'newbie' plea of permissions and what to do, and where to go.. I was contacted by one of the members of Pigeon Watch who offered is time to take me onto one of his permissions. I learnt more in 1 hr with him than I had done in a whole month of reading books, watching countless vids on Youtube and reading copious amounts of magazine articles of 'what I shot in 2 hours' and so on.. (and yes I can read) I learnt about, pigeon flight, the flight lines, what to look for, when to shoot and when not to shoot, killing ranges, camo gear, decoys, decoy patterns, crop identification, and basically had a overall on what 'I thought I Knew about filed craft' The day started slow (due to me missing 2 real sitters - probably half nerves half over confidence in the shot). The wind dropped and we made the decision to move to the other side of the field against the hedgerow. We set up the pattern in a horseshoe format and began the waiting game. It wasn't long before the first pigeon of the set game in, I managed to watch it fly from left, across the field and up towards the centre of the pattern, about 15ft off the deck, it began to swoop in and I was up and took the shot! Pow, first pigeon of the session, and my first 'proper shooting' as it where. I am still smiling now! All in all we had 13 shot and 9 picked, I was taught a master-class shooting lesson when Terry managed to fold a high crossing bird moving at a hell of a pace whilst sitting down in mid conversation! Definitely his shot of the day and one I wont forget! All of which I am most grateful, had a cracking day, great company and really appreciate the time taken to show me the ropes. A massive thank you to Baker Boy for his time and guidance, I look forward to doing it all again soon!
