finreid
Have saved up a bit of money, and am thinking of getting a new rifle. For deer, I currently have a 7x57 on my ticket which belongs to my dad, so am after my own one! Want something a little different, and it will be used mainly for reds with the occasional roe, and fox (if it gets granted on my FAC) Does anyone have a 7mm08 and how do you find it? I know you can get bullet weights from 100g to 175g, and supposed to be good for handloading, which im considering getting into. Any other recommendations of rounds? also been thinking about a 25-06. Not keen on .270 or 6.5x55. Cheers guys

Cheers guys The 7-08 rem works best with a bullet around 140 grns. compared directly with a 308 and a 150 grn like bullet you get better retained energy at longer ranges (though it dont make a jot on deer to be honest) i found it a bit much for Roe often it sucked guts into the chest cavity through the diaphram when it passed too close through hydralic shock. but it was good for larger deer and forestry killed very well and you practically always got a strike. never got it to work well with lighter bullets though sold it to BK on here and believe he did. Downside is harder to get bullets and likewise brass though you can neck up .260 or down .308 its an extra process though and can in itself lead to issues, I think with the availability of .260 rem brass from lapua and the general availability of 6.5 bullets that is the route i should take today if i thought i needed a bigger gun personally
finreid
am i right in thinking then that a 260 rem is effectively a 6.5mm08?!
