malantone
LAST YEAR WE LEARNED FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR, WHEN WET WEATHER COST US A LOT OF LOSSES, WE SPENT ABOUT £60 ODD QUID ON ROPE AND TARPS, THE RESULTANT CONSTRUCTION LOOKED LIKE A SCOUT CAMP IN OUR MAIN PEN, WE HAD SIX LOW TENTS ABOUT 18FT LONG UNDER WHICH WE PUT A GOOD THICK MAT OF STRAW, AND A DRINKER AT ONE END, ON RELEASE DAY ( 500 BIRDS ) WE SCATTERED PELLETS IN THE STRAW AND OPENED THE CRATES WHICH HAD BEEN PUT UNDER THE TARPS AND LEFT THEM TO MAKE THEM SELVES AT HOME. IT WORKED, THE POULTS ADOPTED THE TENTS, THEY WERE LIKE CHICKENS IN A SCRATCHING PEN AND OUR LOSSES WERE MINIMAL EVEN BUZZARD KILLS WERE WELL DOWN AS THEY HAD GOOD COVER TO DUCK INTO.
