Winchester 1894 AE Legacy

Hi All,

Does anyone know, or even better, recommend someone that specialises and could 'slick' the action on my Winchester 1894 in .357 cal ?

My Marlin was done by SYSS and was classed as 'tricked and slicked' with a Wild West trigger kit and one piece firing pin - massive improvement over the standard rifle.

I am just looking to smooth the cycling of the action and lighten the trigger to around 3 pounds pull.

Many thanks.

Hi Station.

I have owned two 94ae Winchesters and did manage to slick them up myself.

I don't know of anyone that can do it for you.

The ae trigger is lamented world wide. Being a rebounding type it uses a very strong hammer spring. Just lightening the spring can give light strikes and mis-fires.

I stone the sear to give a lighter break and retain the full spring weight. It's not an easy trigger but not impossible, just a fiddle.

The rear and underside of the bolt can be radiused and polished, likewise the hammer just where the bolt pushes down on it. What I mean is just radius the corners a little. Usually there is a witness mark. This area should be filed a little and then polished. The aim is to just spread the load a little better than stock.

Good luck, I actually prefere the Win 94 action over the Marlin.

Underdog.

Many thanks Underdog - much appreciated. :good:

I do prefer the Winchester myself to be honest - just a great rifle to shoot :D

By the way how common are the pistol grip Legacy versions as I have not seen many around.

Never seen one myself.

Mine were 16" trappers in 30wcf. Took a few deer and quite a few more fox's with them. Miss them to be honest.

A friend had a 357, it shot pretty much any load we stuffed in it!

I kick myself every day for jibbing a chance to buy a mint 307 and brass from a show

U.
