First ever day on the pigeons/crows

took up the offer of a days shooting for pigeon with Caeser on his permission over in yorkshire, we arrived at about 0830 and setup next to a stack of bales on a field of wheat stubble with the decoys out and enjoying the shelter from the hot sun! we had a few coming in now and then but not too much interest and as the sun moved around so we where slowly getting cooked in the hide we decided to move but not before seeing a rather strange fox on the far side of the field it had a big white bushy tail!!

on arriving at the new location we were in the shade of a row of trees next to a small stream which was just to the side of a flight line between 2 groups of trees and we had a few show an interest in the decoys but there were a few pigeons feeding at the top of our field so more were going for the real pigeons than our decoys but we were on the flight line for the full pigeons returning to the trees to digest there food we ended up picking up 62 with probably another 20 we could not find due to landing in crops and in the trees behind us we also got a few crows through the day too. we then took some refreshment at a local pub with one of the farmers whose land we had shot on. we then went off to zero the rifles ready for a spot of bunnie lamping in a paddock for the land owner but sadly there wasnt too many bunnies out maybe they were all tucked up at home watching the Olympics?? i know one thing i have donated my boxers to persil for scientific research after a horse appeared behind me out of the darkness!! we also both got eaten alive by horse flies every time we had the lamp on! all in all it was a fantastic day out and definately looking forward to getting the opportunity to go again! even though it was 26 degrees in the hide for most of the afternoon. Its fair to say i slept well that night as i had left home at 6 am and returned home just before 2 am the next day

Thanks again to Caeser(Steve) for letting me come along :good:

It was a good day wasn't it.

Well done Andy on shooting your first woodpigeon. And your 2nd and 3rd and all the others too.

Better than clays isn't it.

My left arm looked like Popeye's arm it was swollen that much, from my biceps down to my hand. My own fault, having a short sleeved shirt on whilst lamping, on a warm night.

The lamping was a bit of a disaster, due to the weather. The rabbits just didn't come out.

Nevermind , the rest of the day was really good.

yeah had a fantastic day, i am covered in bites too and that was through my long sleeve t shirt! i think we need to design a kevlar jersey for lamping :)

its quite literally makes clays look boring :good: they also taste a heck of a lot nicer too

my kitchen the next morning looked like a scene from the tv series Dexter with bin bags duct taped to work surfaces to collect any evidence of what went on before the mrs got home :innocent:

yeah its a shame the bunnies weren't out and about i stil think those bloody spooky horses are to blame!! lol

very nice pint in the Black smiths arms too :drinks:

would love to come along again some time soon if you dont mind my curry butties
