Testing a cabinet for potential damp / humidity

I want to test my back-up cabinet for damp, it's in a slightly unorthodox place and whilst perfectly legal the FEO did make a passing comment to be on the lookout for moisture. It's fixed to a double thickness breeze-block type 'outer' wall.

Just wondering if there is a way, short of buying a humidity meter, of testing it, before I store a few guns on there which don't get used very often.

I've got a VP90 sachet for it already, but I don't want to use it until I know what's what. Any ideas?
