If you shoot enough it is bound to happen sooner or later its never good when it does and its on your mind for days, this tale brings to mind one time with me, l was up in one of my h/seats and a roe came out on the ride l decided it was shootable and shot the animal it was 75yds, at the shot it kicked out its back legs and ran off the ride, l gave it 15 mins and got down to find it all there was was a pile of pins at the site of the shot no claret, l searched untill it was dark and covered at least 300yds in a semi circle, l came back the next morning with the dogs who were in training but again a fruitles search even further in the wood 1 of the dogs showed good signs of following a trail but l pulled it off.

About a year later l was stalking in the next bit of woodland and found a pile of roe bones it was the lost beast with a shot through the ribs now if l had left the dog l am sure it would have taken me strait to the animal because when l called a holt to the trail it was within about 60 to 70 yds of it and heading in the right direction, so all l am trying to say is these animals can and will go long distances on adrenalin they may well be clinicly dead but it is just increadible what they can and will do this beast had gone at least 700 yds and l have heard of them going further, dont beat yourself up over it if you shoot it happens.
