Guys,

Im very excited today, thought I would share it.

As I said earlier its been hard with Safi because she wasnt interested in dummies, tennis balls etc. Ive now had her picking up on 4 shoot days and last Saturday I was asked to join the beating line or work her along some hedgerows. I wasnt that keen to be honest because I knew she would be very excited getting so close to the game and it worried me she would end up in a bit of a frenzy etc. Anyway I did as I was asked and she did well enough although she only got to pick a single bird.

So today Im out for a walk with a bit of training when she brings me back a woody that had been well chewed up around the breast but very fresh, she was really up for it and hunted hard afterwards before I slowed her down. While working the hedgerows on Saturday she put a lot of birds up and she really seemed to go up a few gears, she seemed to do the same after this woody so I kept it and decided I would try putting the wings on one of the dummies again.

Wow this is a different dog, all of a sudden this dummy is now of real interest and she retrieved it time and again from various levels of cover until I brought the game to an end before she got bored, although at the rate she was still going it didnt looked like it would be any time soon! I had tried all sorts wrapped around those dummies a couple of months ago and she would retrieve them once and then lose interest. I can only imagine the fact she has seen plenty of the real thing lately has given her a scent/taste for it and now the dummy is interesting. This will make things much easier as a fresh rabbit skin and a few sets of different wings are much easier to get and dont end up rotting in my game bag every week.
