Anonymouslemming
After today, I can see why some grounds don't like semis. I was at Essex shooting ground, and I forgot my magnetic broomstick at home, so I couldn't clean up after myself. I asked if I could borrow theirs, but they said not to worry, they'd pick up at the end of the day. I cleaned up whatever fell on the people side of the ropes, but I didn't want to go forward of the ropes to get carts that had gone there. The stands I'd shot looked a mess afterwards I'll be velcroing the broomstick to the side of the slip when I get home tonight so that I can't forget it again. P~MX
the unfortunate thing with usin a semi is that if the shootin ground has it compulsory to lift your empties it's a pain in the ***, it can take time and hold up the waitin squad and you can end up with dirty and wet hands,

It doesn't look wonderful (it really is a broomstick with a magnet) but it does the job quickly and gets me out of the way
altnipper
That's interesting. I've only started shooting again over the last 6 months after a 12 year break and I can not once remember anyone with a semi auto picking up their own spent cartridges. Bloke
The two main grounds I shoot, Pinewood and Park Lodge, ask that people pick up carts. Pinewood supply magnet sticks at each station, (although there are still a few pond lives who have stolen them :( ) and Park lodge loans you one out with your counter. If I am shooting with a mate, we pick up for each other as we go, obviously only if the carts fall behind the shooting line. Otherwise, 5 carts max only takes one sweep, hardly a chore if you are using a semi. As the ground owner says, if he has to pay people to pick up cartridges, that's ok, but the price of a round of clays will go up to match, it is our choice- fair enough, although obviously he will pick up any that fall out of reach or in front of the line! I must admit to mainly using my o/u if in a comp with mates though, quicker on the cartridge disposal if you are in a queue.
