SakoQuad
I have a 28" barrelled SV10 Prevail III that I use for sporting clays, game and rough shooting. I bought it nearly 3 years ago and have used it weekly or more since new. It fits like a glove, has, what is for me, perfect balance and weight which gives it a "nimbleness" that I love (by which I mean the ability to change direction effortlessly if needed). I've shot 14,000+ clay cartridges and several hundreds of game cartridges through it so far without any issues apart from some remedial work needed on the ejectors. This was a very common problem with the earlier Prevails that GMK sorted under warranty, where ejector timing was way out and on my gun the bottom barrel failed to eject at all most of the time. Hasn't missed a beat since being fixed. If the gun is one of the older models (2009 / 2010) make sure it has had this work done on the ejectors as the warranty is only 3 years. If its a newer gun the problem was sorted I believe by the 2011 production. Before I bought it I tried Miroku, Browning and AYA models but never felt truly comfortable with them (though their fans will of course say I'm barmy!). It is difficult to describe properly but they all felt nose heavy and somehow cumbersome and inert? I then tried a Silver Pigeon which I liked a lot more, then the Prevail which I just fell for, enough to pay rather more than I had initially planned to. Mine has the Kick Off system as well and I have to say I like that as well but again it's not to everyone's taste. I just enjoy being able to shoot without any concerns about getting kicked, less important now than when I first started shooting clays perhaps but I don't have any probs with heavier cartridges when using them and I like that! Everyone who has tried my SV10 has commented positively on how it feels to shoot including some Browning fans who were looking for something to criticise - admittedly one of them felt the Kick Off system was not to his taste. Gun choice is such a personal thing that I would hesitate to ever say buy it, only that I would not have a moments hesitation in doing so myself. RAMMER BURT
i had one but sold it after 3 years as they have cart extractor problems also beretta have stoped producing them so cant be that good i paid £2300 for mine and sold it for £1550 so secondhand value is poor a lot of gun dealers wont buy them as they are hard to shift easier to buy than sell a bit like a browing black ice
SakoQuad
Ejector problem became a well known problem that should have been, and mine was, easily fixed under warranty so you would need to check this was done.If it has I can't think of a reason why anyone wouldn't buy a well maintained example. It's true that the gun (Prevail III) didn't sell well in UK - too expensive with features like the Q Stock pushing production costs up but not really wanted by the market. Beretta now produce the Prevail Sporter which is minus these pricey features and sells for around £1700 new I believe. Second hand Prevail III's similar. I guess the market has sorted where it thinks this gun should be priced?
RAMMER BURT
simpsons of newmarket are selling brand new prevail sporters at £1400 at 1700 it competes with the browing
SakoQuad
Even better value for money! Can't remember where I got the £1700 from but have seen them for sale at that price somewhere! The RRP for the Sporter is over £2000 so that is a tidy reduction, I have seen the the Prevail Pro (RRP at around £1800) for sale around £1500 but not a Sporter. Perhaps the recession is really biting! At £1400, they compete directly with the Silver Pigeon so that would provide an interesting choice if in the market for a new gun. If I were in the market and could buy my gun now, secondhand, for £1400- £1700, I would buy it without hesitation but I realise that gun choice is a really personal thing and what suits one will certainly not suit someone else.
