  1. works as well in an ordinary oven and costs a darn sight less than doing on a gas BBQ with gas at over £32 a bottle! I imagine a charcoal BBQ might add a bit of extra flavour but a tad more difficult!!!!!
  2. Buy it, one of the best sub 12ft lb rifles for under a grand that money can buy. Had one, loved it, sold it to go FAC - regretted the parting ever since.
  3. whilst it would be wrong to advocate it as it is not licensed as a weedkiller there is a product that will kill this weed stone dead with a couple of applications. Ammonium Sulphamate which was a licensed weed killer for many years until the EU got involved , will do the trick nicely. It is used these days as a fire retardant and compost accelerator. It is not cheap and you need a few Kg per 10 litre of spray (depends on the area you want to clear I guess as to how much spray you need). You can find recommended mix ratio on line. Look it up online and you can purchase from several sources as a compost accelerator. Nothing else that is available to mere mortals will do the job with this weed though crushing before spraying will help a bit, it will return. The AS just kills it and the sprayed plants will NOT return (though new ones may of course be spread to your ground next Spring when they spore).
  4. Wild Garlic is a restaurant with rooms in Nailsworth, near Stroud. Food always good and interesting rooms said to be very nice and the breakfast gets rave reviews too. The Dial House at Bourton on the Water also provided an excellent meal and a comfortable room when we stayed there on a "Travel Zoo" deal. Hope you have a good time wherever you go
  5. I see what you mean. I guess I get stuck on the thought that there already is one system as per the FA Act and HO Guidance which if applied properly as a standard provides a consistent , possibly "streamlined" system etc. As far as I know all Forces already do a home visit / interview on initial grants and most police forces do a home visit and interview at every point of the grant, re-issue cycle whether or not they have any questions about a person's fitness to hold a SGC FAC. As usual the report merely highlights the authors lack of any detailed knowledge about a specialist field and what law / guidance is already actually in place. There cannot be a single person alive who believes that granting a SGC/FAC to someone with a drunken physical abuse record, who claims not to drink alcohol but who has been clearly drinking on police visits to his home is anything but rank, incompetent negligence of the highest order. No changes to the rules will avoid such behaviour on the part of individual, or groups of, police officers. Contacting the IPCC as you suggest possibly has merit. The more I think about this the more I think it should be responded to by the shooting community if only to ask exactly what they have in mind and how they think that would make any positive difference when it was so clearly the complete failure of the Police Force in this case to apply any judgement or competence that laid the foundations of the tragedy. It certainly wasn't anything to do with systems or any difficulty about assessment of fitness to possess guns was it. I don't share your concerns about psychiatrists getting in on the act as I can't imagine they would touch it with a barge pole! Privately paid psychologists armed with personality testing might be interested but the cost would rule that out and there aren't enough of them to go round anyway so no real threat there either.
  6. Interesting. I read the article and rather concluded that the IPPCC's recommendations amounted to saying that the Police should apply the rules already in existence with a bit more diligence and common sense rather than recommending any real sweeping changes.
  7. Nothing says that your referees can't be a couple living together, they just shouldn't be related to, or living with, you.
  8. Can confirm the general view above. Here in Glos you will wait months for anything to be issued from Glos Firearms whether its SGC or FAC, new or renewal, variation, for vermin control or target club shooting and all regardless of what you may already hold. In recent years the shortest wait I know of is 4 months, the longest nearly 12 months and the norm appears to be around 6 months. It's a shame they don't seek advice from BASC about how to reduce their processes and improve efficiency (I never doubt they all work very hard) but I doubt that will happen as I suspect there is a certain resistance to change within the section.
  9. I was astonished to be told recently that pheasant poults cost between £3 & £4 each (delivered in July), makes a brace of oven readies at £5 look even better value!
  10. they have featured here before and someone tried them I believe - decision was that they were a waste of money and to be avoided if I remember correctly.
  11. Flea bay, search for Winchester gun sock - less than £8. Why pay more? If spending money is to be avoided at all costs and big socks not available then old pillow cases can be made to do the job. Still trying to imagine socks long enough / big enough to cover a gun, the head pictures are becoming surreal!
  12. This place do air bottle refills. Don't use a water tank to keep it cool so you might find pressure drops a bit when bottle cools! No butcher near either!! Safety Training and Assessment ServicesAddress 12 Bamel Way Gloucester Business Park Gloucester Gloucestershire GL3 4BH
  13. Would be interested to know what the problem turned out to be?
