Cold, tired and wet............for nothing!!

Having been planning our trip for weeks me and my shooting partner were really exited about this weekends wildfowling!

We planned to get to the marsh at about midnight, set up and shoot the incoming tide under the moon. All was well. Set up and sat on the foreshore. Was real quiet so decided to have a snooze leaving my mate waiting for a shot. 2 hours later.............nothing!

After another couple of hours we decided to leave decoys and hides on the foreshore and go back to the truck for some sleep as the tide would cover the marsh.

Woke up late and ended up rushing back out to the hides, in the process, I lost my footing and fell over in a waist deep Chanel:-) thanks to my mate for helping, if that means laughing while I got to my feet!!!

Got got back to the hide and sat there for about another 3 hours and............nothing!

Couldn't beleive it! Had been cold icy all week on the run upto the trip, thought it would be having with duck!!!!

Still enjoyed it tho, always nice to get out, would have been nice to have something for the table tho!

That's the way it goes sometimes, took out a lad on a taster flight today it has been pretty quiet lately so decided to not shoot and sit in the hide with him. loads of birds moving and a lot that were well in range, he was unlucky and didn't manage to put anything in the bag but fired more cartridges in a morning flight than i have in a month on the shore :good:

I was asked recently if I wanted to join our local wildfowlers this year.......I just stood shocked as all those memory's came flooding back.....No I said.

It is hard work most of the time, you need to be fit, have the best of gear and never give in.....sadly I can't do what you lads do.....but understand why!

Keep going lads, your body will let you know when it's time to stick to Pigeons.
