First Rabbit with new lamp

due to my other perm being devoud of anything in the air, i decided to buy a tracer Ledray GL4 to have a go at the rabbits in the dark on my other perm

the rabbits have not been showing during the day so popped round the other night with a torch and spotted a few

got to the permission at 7.30pm tonight and got ready in the car park, walked round the lake and there was nothing,so carried on to the other field,

as i got to the gate i switched my light on and two rabbits where about 50yrds away,i could not believe just how bright the red filter lit their eyes up,i kept the light on and preceeded to walk towards them but was expecting them to do a runner, but they just carried on eating

the light did not spook them at all,

now as this was my first ever night time shooting session judging distance was going to be a problem so i got to what i thought was around 40yrds (which my rifle is zero,d at) and plopped my bipod down, i lay down still keeping the light on the two rabbits, i put the cross hair on its head and pulled the trigger,,the pellet screamed towards it and shaved the top of its head,it bolted off, " i must be closer than 40yrds i thought", i turned towards the right hand rabbit which had not even flinched and came down half a milldot pulled the trigger and it dropped instantly,

i paced it out and it was 35 paces so was closer than what i thought, well that was me done 1 rabbit in the bag for tea tommorow so was more than pleased

a truelly great half hour in the dark and a lesson to be learnt that judging distances in the dark is not easy

anyway here,s the pic of my first ever outing in the dark with my new light

First off sounds like a good first night time shooting trip :) i was wondering about The tracer Ledray GL4 you have. Is it the red one or the white with a filter fitted? I have just been looking at these on a website (not sure if you can mentioned sites on here) and was u sure what to get. Won't be for a while as just starting out, but like to have a idea of kit (so I know what to save for)

hi karl its the white light with the red filter, the white light was brilliant mate i could see perfectly over 100yrds and well over, when i put the red filter on it dropped the distance to around 70 yrds, what amazed me tonight about the red filter on the light was it did not spook the rabbits what so ever, they just carried on moving about and eating,if its for air rifle shooting that you want a light for i would certainly reccomend the GL4 mate an awsome bit of kit

cheers Evo

Yeah it's for a air rifle (hw97) cheers for the response, its always best to get a review off someone using a bit of kit rather than reading the website blurb. Sounds good about the red filter not spooking them as well. Looks good mounted on your rifle as well, not big and cumbersome like some. My rifle isn't the lightest as is so smaller size but packing a punch is great
