hi all am thinking of joining gwa ,like most clubs you will have to join as an assosiate member ,and can only go out with a full member /mentor .my question is are there members willing to take novices out with them and show them the ropes as such,or can it be a bit of a problem finding some to mentor you in the club.

thanks neill.

It's not a problem to get someone to take you out all as long as you are prepared to put the effort in. There is a list of full members willing to take out associates but it is up to you to ring and make contact. I think some find this cold calling a bit daunting but it shouldn't be. Full members are on the list because they have agreed to be.

For the last three seasons or so GWA have run Assoc. flights during the early part of the season simply to get new members out on the river with experienced people and speed up attaining full membership.

I'm quite happy to take out new members and can be reached via PM on here

Hi Neill

As Reabrook has already said there are lots of people willing to take associates out, and the early season associate flights you will meet full members who are willing to take people out. It is not an easy branch of the sport by any means and like you so rightly said its more about being there soaking up the experiences than putting anything in the bag, which can be sporadic at best.

Hope to see you out there come the new season.
