Shooting2
Hi guys After some advice on feeding pheasants, I have been shooting Pigeons/vermin for many years now and just been given land which I have permission to feed and shoot pheasants. Most of the land which I have permission to feed is set aside and Isnt farmed, I am only wanting to shoot walked up rather than it being driven. What I need to know is what shall I feed, wheat or barley and when should I start feeding ready for Next season.
wannabe_keeper
Sounds good that you have some land on which to shoot pheasants. All depends on whether you are putting any birds down or are just hoping to draw in wild birds. Just be careful with neighbouring shoots that you don't feed and draw a lot of their birds in without putting any down yourself as this can be a quick way to make enemies. If it is just drawing in other birds then you should be fine to use just wheat which will be less expensive for you than pellet but again depends on when you wish to start feeding. You can go for hoppers located around the woodland, shaws, hedgerows on your ground but also take into consideration badger and deer damage to these and which feeder nozzles you go for. You could also build tin shelters to feed under. The other option and good for holding them would be to create some straw rides in the woods/shaws if possible and loose feed by hand as this makes the birds work for their food and scratch around. Good luck!
