claycrasher
As a new member to PW and one that is STILL waiting for a visit from the FEO I wondered what you all felt about an article in my local paper regarding the Staffs police "fast track" pilot scheme to make the application for firearms licence easier and quicker by doing it online and so cutting a lot of red tape. The article reads along the line of, "Staffordshire police will be one of five forces to pilot the new initiate, which police say will update the system and reduce bureaucracy. From September applicants can apply for renewals, grants, make amendments to their licence , track applications and pay online. Those applying for licences will still receive home visits from specially trained staff and subject to intensive checks". From my own point of view I think as long as there are still the rigerous home checks it would be a good thing to be able to get online and look at your licence and amend and pay for applications and especially in my situation now be able to see how far your application is through the system. What say you PW peeps ??
moorvale55
I've not heard about this scheme in my area, (North Staffs), I agree with you in as much as home visits are necessary, but an online application/variation etc. is no different to a paper one. I like the advantage of being able to track the application as well. Seems good to me, (especially if it speeds things up).
slimshooter
http://www.shootinguk.co.uk/news/537643/Online_firearms_licensing_to_go_live_this_summer.html It is just catching up with other government departments, payment will be easier online, only thing I right a cheque for now days. All the same checks will be in place, seems logical thing to do, as they cutting staff in licencing departments across the country.
