Frenchieboy
Ok, so most of us rifle shooters should be able to hit a 45mm disc at 150 yards with a .222 quite easily, but how about if that 45mm disc was moving about and swinging in the wind? I managed to get some time to myself this morning to go out and check the zeroing on my .222 and have a bit of "fun shooting" at my local quarry. I carefully zeroed up the rifle using Partizan 50g softpoints, which my rifle does appear to quite like, and then I set myself a bit of a challenge. I stuck two of my old hide poles into the soft backfill at 150 yards and hung a bit of thin electric wire looseley between them. From this wire I suspended half a dozen 45mm chalk targets using paper clips so that they could move about and swing in the wind. The problem at this quarry is that whatever wind there is tends to be a little erratic and ghusts and swirls about a lot - The video shows exactly what I mean. Anyway, I did manage to hit 4 out of the 6 targets before the wind started to pick up so much it made this type of shooting impossible. If you think that this sort of thing is easy you really ought to try it yourself. Just set up with a good safe backstop at a rerasonable range and have some fun! Here's the link to the video! fieldwanderer
Years ago (2001) I was shooting an international match in Suhl, 10mtr air rifle. In between training and the match itself me and some of my team mates went for a look around the complex and we came across some Germans shooting 10mtr air running boar, same size targets but mounted in a moving boar shape; to my horror - they were nearly as good at it as we were with targets that were perfectly still! It didn't inspire much confidence If I remember rightly though, we still beat the Germans that year
