goodo123
Just wondered how you guys decoy without a dog on tall crops? What's the procedure? Leave them where they drop? Try retrieve causing minimum damage? Don't do it all together? Only shoot flatterned parts? I would love a dog but due to working shifts and renting its a no no atm. Churchill
I try and set up on the flatter parts of the fields that have already been hammered by the pigeons, and if i hit a bird and it drops a fair way out into the field then i just walk out carefully trying not to trample the crops. deny essex
I never take the wife ! I now shoot without a dog and try to decoy and drop birds in laid/bare areas, birds that fall outside the area in long crop I leave unless able to pick up without causing crop damage , pricked birds in long crop obviously are a must to pick up/dispatch ASAP if possible and a dog can be invaluable for that, taking care that some well ripened crop like barley can spear a dogs eyes and feet, the dog can still cause damage all be it less than a size 11 boot.
