Scragrat
Went out first light this morning for a fox. After sitting at a likely spot for 1 hour and only seeing a doe I thought I'd have a walk around the boundary. As I was walking along a large hedge, out popped a fox with something in it's mouth, only 30 meters infront of me. She turned and started to trot down a tramline in the wheat field so I was up on sticks but no shot on as I could only see her head above the corn. She had no intention of stopping so I moved along to the tramline she was in, back onto sticks but by now she was a good 250 meters away. Aiming just above her head to allow for her still trotting away from me, I had overcompensated the shot and it slammed into the ground in front of her .This is when my luck changed and she turned and started to come back my way up the tramline A quick reload, cross hairs on her chest, bang, missed down the side With this shot she started to cross the tramlines so I could see her one second then gone the next My only hope was that she stopped when she reached the hedge. Lucky for me she paused long enough to get the crosshairs on her flank and just as she moved her head into the hedge I fired and a solid thwack came back. When I got to her she was laid with 2 baby rabbits still in her mouth. She had been milking cubs but her fur was well grown back so I will be back later to look for the litter.
