bicykillgaz
Gunsmiths often need to cut a circumferential groove around the barrel tenon to ease the stress on the shoulder when removing a factory barrel which are generally tightened far harder than re-barrel jobs and sometimes thread locked in too. This ***** the barrel. It it is the same calibre and you have no re-variation issues, I also think it a shame not to at least see if it is a shooter before raping it but on the other hand, it's a 22-250 so is likely shagged anyway, all the used one are used ones for that reason I ever see, alternatively stored badly and pitted with on "30 rounds fired m8" type salesmanship There is also a very good chance it would need headspacing work done to it anyway, either on the shoulder or perhaps even the chamber itself. oh and then a re-proof Cheers for that mate Gary
fieldwanderer
Frankly that's madness without shooting the rifle, taking a perfectly good 85 and junking a decent barrel, I also think it a shame not to at least see if it is a shooter before raping it but on the other hand, it's a 22-250 so is likely shagged anyway, all the used one are used ones for that reason I ever see, alternatively stored badly and pitted with on "30 rounds fired m8" type salesmanship. Fister's reply is precisely why I'm not too worried - it looks very good but no-one knows except it's previous owner - plus it's 1in14 twist which isn't really what I want and defeats the whole point; I'm after something different. Forget the suggestion about a freeby / cheap barrel - I didn't know they were such a problem to remove.
