Sco77w
I have a 6 year old springer bitch Who is a barker. It takes nothing to set her off and I'm moving house in the next 3 weeks or so and need to try and get her out of the habit. My previous attempted have included trying to give commands to distract her, that didn't work, putting her in her run (on her own) while the other dog was in the house, squirting with a water pistol and a collar that emits a sound that should distract her but nothing has worked. Do any of you dog men have any advice? My 18 month old bitch is a very different dog and we hardy hear a peep from her.
The Ghost
Lots of trainers say you should learn your dog to bark from an early age, while also giving the command to stop....If your dog then becomes a barker you have the key to turn it off. Dogs are pack animals, I would think that your Springer would spend most of it's time outside the pack and used as an early warning for the rest. These dogs are mostly highly strung nervous types, in a home setting this can be annoying at 5am or when guests arrive. I would subject the dog to the many things that trigger the barking then calmly tell it to stop....a very little at a time. An example would be a knock at the door...take the dog to the door and you knock on the door in plain view of the dog....then build up from that point.
