Barley replaces Rape

Well I went out yesterday and set-up in the rape field and did not see a bird all evening. They where about but all heading toward the Barley field. Took a wonder around the Beet and not a pigeon in sight. Spoke to the keeper who was tucking his birds up for the night and he agreed what fields had some Barley laid where heavy with Pigeons. Sadly we do not have any Barley due to the wet last year so I may just have a wonder around and see if there are any farmers who need a hand.

Was not a wasted session though as did manage to bag two Rooks but that was while I was walking around.

its a funny time of year at the mo after the overdose on rape during the long winter it seems to have put them off there usual pattern round my way there not commiting to anything at the mo i had even herd that they were landing on top of standing wheat the other day squasing it down! its just the cross over time at the mo so there isnt really a pattern round mine! there used to be when the birds eye factory was open at lowestoft but now its closed we have chuff all pea fields round my way so there isnt anythitng to keep them on in between the rape getting to big to feed on and the crops being harvested! i would expect its diffrent all over the country but in north suffolk thats the deal at the mo!
