goodo123
You would think the the ammo makers would get their research heads on and develop a lead alternative which is affordable and useable in 'conventional' guns. There seems to be a few tungsten plastic shot types on the market I agree, with the amount of understanding we have on metallurgy and the money in research I would have thought their would be at least a dozen different alloys what could be used to simulate lead without being extortionate priced. I also agree that it doesn't have to be metallic with the research in plastics etc. It would be interesting to shoot a plastic cartridge with full fast biodegradable shot. I think the only way the cartridge manufacturers will develop such a load and input the required investment is when lead is banned, their must be loads of other materials out their what can mimic the characteristics of lead, maybe some which are even cheaper to produce. As daft as this may sound it could be a product we already utilize for a different process. Now get your thinking caps on, what's heavy, can maintain a structure at high pressure, has a low friction spherical outer what can be made to required sizes effectively?. Some form of resin? Soft ceramic?
Paul T
I could shoot and have shot steel through my Beretta semi and my Rottweil O/U. They are not steel proof marked (fleur de lys) but I just keep the chokes sensible. No way on earth I would be stuffing my E Harrison Damascus barrelled SxS with steel though. To be honest, I love shooting this gun and if it means Bismuth or other alternatives, then I'll pay for it to be able to shoot. I'll do a lot more reading up before I ever dare risk it though!
