I know the range of carts is limited but I am quite keen to add a 16 to my guns , maybe an older hammer type. I once had a beautiful little French 16 which was an absolute joy, except it had a habit of firing when the safety was released so it had to go.

Anyone else have or keen to try a 16? - Prices must be reasonable I would have thought, just off to check Guntrader !

I've got a 16 bore side by side hammer gun that used to belong to my father before he passed away.

It's been in the cabinet for years as I was using 12 bores and I don't know why I didn't use the 16 (maybe still thought of it as his gun).

Changed to the 16 last 2/3 outings before rape etc got too high and i'm keenly awaiting the harvesting near me to get back out and use it again.

Plenty of punch for pigeons and rabbits , light to use and doesn't give you a headache if you have a good day.

Little twist in the tale is He bought the gun for £8 including about 15 cartridges many years ago, it was recently valued at the local gunsmiths for over £1000 !!

Wouldn't sell it though too many fond memories......................

good luck !!

I've got some 16 bores but I don't consider the cartridge range to be limited. It might be if you're looking for a dedicated clay shooting load but you're pretty well served game-wise. I tend to to use a 16 bore now in preference 12 or 20 bores. The guns are light to carry/hold and they're just as capable as a 12 bore if you put the shot in the right place. I use mine for decoying Pigeon, Rabbits and walked-up game in season. I reckon it's about the best calibre of the lot.
