Selling a rifle at a distance

If I sell a rifle to someone at the other end of the country, am I right in saying that the buyer should get his/her RFD to arrange collection via an approved carrier?

If this isn't the case how does it work?

Come on Milligan and Mary, you could both answer this one whilst reading GunMart on the potty :thanks:

You will have to give it to a RFD who will take it off your license and post to other RFD via TNT etc.

When arrived the RFD who it was sent to will have to write it onto the persons certificate ( like they have sold it to them).

Carraige costs £25 and recieving dealer will normally charge £25 to put on license.

Just get Parcel Force to collect from your home address (thats part of the service) and take it to the RFD nearest your buyer on their 24 hr service. (must be 24hr)

The RFD adds it to your buyers FAC and you notify the Police (both your Constabulary and your buyer's to be safe) that your rifle is sold. Tell Parcel Force it is a rifle and they then ensure it isn't left anywhere it shouldn't be. Do make a note of buyers Date of Birth.

If you so wish............

It is still legal for you to ask your buyer to post you his FAC and you do the addition and then post it back to him with the rifle via an RFD. This way the RFD has no paperwork and will usually accept a 'drink' (assuming he does drink) instead of charging a fee. He has no notifications to do as you have already done it - all he has to do is hand it over.

The way I read the law it says transactions must be completed face to face. The RFD is doing that on your behalf.
