ratty1
Got to the marsh a tad to early this morning, like always being too keen. Seemed to take an age for the flight to start but as I was trying to repremand the dog for his over excitement, a brace of mallard came down the tideline at an unmissable hight, well I duley missed them by a fair way. Next to come were a brace of geese, they also managed to get away unscathed. So now at this point I'm cursing profusely to myself,as I new exactly what I was doing wrong,I wasn't swinging through and was just stabbing at them which is due to me having a crack at clays the day before, I waited for another ten minutes before the next brace of mallard came through, this time swinging through correctly and dropping the front bird, the duck dropped nicely out on the water about 20 yards out which was a nice easy first retreive for the pup. I was very happy with the pups performance but as he offered it up I noticed it was a very imature bird, having nown that I wouldn't have shot. The rest of the flight was superb but no more shots were fired as they all seemed to be imature birds, nice to watch though.
