Jonsey
I’m having quite a lot of trouble with my two bitches. I have a Labrador/Springer (6) and a Border Collie (5). At the moment the Lab is top dog but the Collie is pushing to be leader. There’s a lot of growling and spitting going on, and the Collie stands over the Lab “giving her the eye†and eventually she gets annoyed and snaps and growls at the Collie making her retreat. If I tell them to stop they do so immediately, I have spent a lot of time training them since I got them as puppies and they are on the whole very well behaved dogs. Up until now I have left them to growl at each other for a certain length of time before I intervene with a stop command but I’m thinking I should let them just sort it out once for all however as the Collie is only pushing and not making a real attempt to take the crown I don’t know how long that will take. All the rest of the time they are great friends and lovely dogs, I’ve had dogs all my life but never 2 at the same time so this is new for me. I was away Christmas and New Year with friends who found the whole growling thing a bit alarming so it made me think I should get some help. Does anyone have any advice? Can I train them out of it? Or should I just let them work it out for themselves? Thanks
lurcherboy
I would let them sort the pecking order out between them IMHO although it could all go pete tong. Everytime I bring a new dog in the pecking order is changed and it makes for interesting viewing when food is on the line. Check out NTTF I am sure he will have some advice for you.
