I thought I might put this in this section as it's a combination of all shooting related matters. I got a slab of my usual Cheddite brand cartridges but a different variant , 8.5s 28g rather than my usual 8s 28g.

The packaging is all different as you can see as well as the price per thousand £230 instead of my usual £164, so they must be good ???

Now here's the question my first high gun at my club in sporting 89 ex 100 , I've never come close to that score even if the layout hadn't been changed my scores would be in the 65-75 on average . So does spending that much more on expensive cartridges make that much more difference ? or is it all in my mind ? Did I have a good nights sleep ?

I don't usually mess with cartridges but I thought I would try and have a bit of an experiment :)

Sorry spelt High gun wrong , pleases amend mods :/

The one on the left marked 8 is in fact English size 7.5 (2.3 mm) and a decent shell too but it is more or less a club cartridge. The other looks more top end and is highly likely to be true English 8 (2.2 mm) as the Italian shot size chart differs to ours a little.

Some people including a few world class, will tell you it makes no difference what shells you use, others less wise, will say it can give you a dozen birds, the answer lies somewhere in the middle and most certainly depends on skill level anyway since nothing will break without doing the fundamentals correctly.

It's possible the greater number of pellets (around 50) coupled to their better quality and slightly increased speed made an immediate impact on the quality of your breaks which in turn gives you an added impetus, you push each other along in other words, much the same as when one subconsciously shoots poorly with an unfavoured choke or unfashionable cartridge.

In my experience the right cartridge will give you between 1-3 extra birds per 100 round, no more.
