I’m gonna be frank (not the man from SW Ireland) so don’t take offence as this isn't aimed at you personally but I keep seeing these posts ‘newbie wants some shooting land’ and can no longer keep my mouth shut! Why is it usually the first post…gimme, gimme, gimme and I want, I want, I want? :good:

Firstly if you’re new to shooting you should go have some lessons/practice on the clays, learn the art, the safety rules, the etiquette. GUNS ARE DANGEROUS! RIFLES MORE SO THAN SHOTGUNS! If you don’t have a Dad, friend or other mentor find some like-minded people (preferably with more experience) and join the crowd. Probably at your local clay ground or range. You’d be amazed how many people shoot in your area. Maybe spend some money on buying the odd day or find a game shoot and offer to do some beating, picking up etc.

Then once you have some experience and know the game you can try looking for some land of your own. I don’t know how old you are but there’s not many farmers will give permission to some youngster out of the blue who’s still wet behind the ears. Are you insured? Even if your not so young…I live on a farm and get approached on a regular basis by people looking for pigeon shooting (unfortunately for them I’m doing it) and most of them don’t have a clue about the way they look, dress or talk and I wouldn’t let any of them near my daughters (even if I did have any) let alone my pigeon shooting.

Don't want to put off any new comers to the sport but why is it that people think they've a God given right to shooting land. The right has to be earned.

I don't take your comments personally but would point out that, firstly I shoot with Air rifles only, my post was moved from the air rifle section. I know they are dangerous, I have had rifles in the past but only for FT shooting (I was a member of a club). I am in my forties and a BASC member and I asked the forum for any advise as I would like shoot Pigeons and any other pests - a different environment to the range. So perhaps you could advise on how you like to see people "look, dress or talk" as they approach your farm.

Thanks
