You have to work hard to get a permission

Recommended Posts

Hi guys just a few words to all these guys trying to get a permission,,,, QUESTION 1 would you want a total stranger off the internet wandering round your land with a loaded weapon,,ANSWER NO,

Few tips : permissions are not going to drop into your lap,, you have to get out there and door knock,, yes it takes time and you will get refused several times, but if you love the sport as you say you do , you will be persistent , most people will not let total strangers on their land with a loaded weapon,,

Dress smartly , be polite, introduce yourself, a must is have insurance( goes along way when asking) if you have a trade offer your services in return for some shooting,,, or just offer to help out at busy times around your shoot, if you are successful in gaining the right to shoot that land, do a good job and word will spread and more permissions will follow,, I myself was a airgun shooter around 10 years ago and had 3 permissions, then moved away and passed on my permissions to others with consent from farmers ,,, but have recently started shooting again 4months ago , and yes I started door knocking again , I now have 4 permission in and around kings lynn Norfolk where I live , but it's been hard work to gain them ,, but it proves if you put in the hardworking it does pay off long term ,, many thanks for letting me warble on ,, happy shooting and stay safe Paul

Good advice there camski

Also if you get some cards printed with your name , insurance , phone number etc and when you introduce yourself to the landowner give them a card

If you get refused thank them very much for their time and say if anything changes they could give you a call

Speaking to a farming mate of mine he says he has no shortage of people asking for permission but most of them are of no use because they arent offering a service they are just after a chance to do their hobby when it suits them. If you can actually make it a service to the farmer perhaps by sharing permissions and therefore offering more cover for the farms so they have someone available at the end of a phone on the days they need them you may find a lot more opportunity, might even get your carts bought for you if your lucky.
