What scope

Hi all

Just bought a used weihrauch HW90

It has a AGS 3-9x40f scope on it I know it's only a cheapy but know nowt about scopes. To me I don't think its strong enough I will be shooting at around 40 yards can any one recommend a scope please. My max budget for a scope will be £50 I know I will be still buying a cheapy but what would be the best magnification for me to use will it be the 3-9x40f or would you recommend different.

you don't need high mag for vermin at all with an airgun 6x could be seen as a maximum let alone 9x. For target work you might use a lot higher mag level either for use in range finding or discerning tiny targets. High mag gives a bigger image but narrower field of view, so lower is generally the way to go on quarry and higher is the thing on targets were you have plenty time and don't need to pick up the target quickly and see the full shot reaction.

 

Remember at 40yards at 4x mag your target will appear as if your looking at it at just ten yards away ( 4 times bigger is 4 times nearer effectively) if you cant see were your crosshairs are pointed at no mag at 10 yards then you need glasses not a scope with higher magnification
