Elk hunter
Four years ago had a yearling stag break it pedicle and skull in altercation with a fence post. Fortunately it survived, but the pedicle set pointing forward over it's eye. 2011 First years growth (far left) I've followed the progress of the animal and the growth of its antler. To my surprise the antler still grow and has no real effect on the animal. As time passed he was just known as Wonky. The damaged left antler kept up with its right antler in terms of size and unless you knew about its past injury it sustained at a young age, from a distance one would never have noticed. 2013 @ 3 years old. Destained to be a sizeable stag Well yesterday had a call from the farm manager that they had found Wonky dead in a basin of one of the fields. I nipped over today as to have a look. He'd been dead a while and had been three quarters eaten by foxes, corvids ect. So gave the carcass a quick inspection before removing his head. The irony of the tail is when I picked up his head I knew instantly the neck was broken as a result of running into the fence. Gutted to see such an animal reduced to this. Andrew. 2015.
