Licensing law -Advice wanted

A friend of a friend has an uncle who's lived in the same farmhouse for most his life. He's now in the course of moving out to a new bungalow.

During the course of clearing the attic, he came across his old 410 shotty that hasn't seen the light of day for years. No doubt at one time he held a shotgun license when they were easily had at the village post office but that was years ago. Instead the gun was put away in the attic and forgotten about until now.

The nephew now has a dilemma of what to do with it.

After deliberation it was decided not to take a hacksaw to it and bury it in the concrete foundations of the new bungalow.

The action and barrel has been cleaned and the stock given an oil finish. But how does the nephew get the gun put on his own license without dropping his uncle in the pooh for posession of an un-licensed shotgun. Is the FLO likely to be human in his approach?
