Redm0002
After the clay shoot was put away, Bob said he wanted to try fly fishing for the trout. I set up a #6-8 weight rod with a WF7F fly line, nylon leader and a small black gnat type fly. The trout are responding well to these types of pattern. Within 20 minutes Bob had hooked and landed a nice Rainbow of about 2lb. Unhooked (barbless only) and a quick pic and the fish was safely returned. When I left Bob was trying to catch a second, obviously bitten by the bug. Fly fishing tickets at Redbournbury are £15 and £22 for a one or two fish limit, you can then continue as catch and release. There are also Brown trout in the River Ver available on the £15 ticket, strictly catch and release. There is also an £8 evening ticket which is catch and release only. The coarse fishing lake is £8 for one rod, £10 for two. For more details about the site and the alternate Saturdays Sporting Clay Shoot (60 bird for £15) see my May 2015 post on the Clay Pigeon Shooting forum. Next shoot is the 25th July 2015 from 12:30, then every second Saturday after that right through the year.

Redm0002
If anyone wants to try fly fishing, PM me. I can supply tackle and some basic instruction including trying for a trout FOC (catch and release only, unless you want to pay for a one fish limit £15).
