I've got a staff who's 12 years old and I'm afraid to say still mad as a hatter when he first meets people but does settle down after ten minutes or so.

It took me around 2 1/2 years before i felt he could be trusted to walk off the leash and not run off if he seen another dog but to be honest with you you're best keeping him on the leash at all times as there'sa lot of ignorant people out there who still believe these dogs are the work of the devil, their not! so expect some funny looks and people crossing the road etc

I grew up with a staff and he was no problem then when i left home I got one myself, lined it and my dad took one of the puppy's after his died. Their loyal, loving and intelligent when they want to be, but can be very stubborn so you do have to be hard on them otherwise they'll walk all over you given half a chance.

As for the chewing when puppys, they'll demolish anything that gets in their way so be careful what you leave lying around.

I have nothing but praise for this breed but be aware that they can be a little feisty with other dogs (after two years old it seemed with mine), mine's especially funny with dogs bigger than him. Their more than capable of looking after themselves, after all thats what they were bred for but in my opinion they don't go looking for fights but they will certainly finish them as the power in their jaws and body's is nothing short of phenomenal for the size of them.

Great company, great with kids, loyal, boisterous, funny, good guard dogs, love excercising, they've got it

all for me.

Hope this helps
