Pykie
Anybody had a few days here? Looks ideal for a mixed bag with friends. Any info would be great as we are planning a trip next season
LeadWasp
Do you mean Thrumster in Caithness? As in http://www.thrumster.co.uk/aboutus.html ?? I've only heard good things about the Estate. That whole area has plenty of sporting opportunity. Give yourself at least 12 hours by car from Exeter and watch the cameras on the A9!!. I used to do it from near Taunton regularly for work...boy do you need a leg stretch by the time you arrive. If I flew up to Inverness, arriving at mid-day, I'd often take the hire car north past Loch Shin to Cape Wrath, then along the top to Thurso. Worth it for a wild drive - you'd get to Scrabster by 10pm so Thrumster by 11pm. The train is equally special but I've only done it once - in '86.....they might have ripped the track up by now ha ha. There used to be an astonishingly good French restaurant by the bridge in Wick http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186542-d1840414-Reviews-Bord_de_L_eau-Wick_Caithness_and_Sutherland_Scottish_Highlands_Scotland.html, or work your way through the whisky shelves in The Top Deck (or upper deck??) in Scrabster. For a dirty little secret you can get deep fried bacon sandwiches in the fisherman's mission in Scrabster..................... DIVERD
I visit the neighboring estate for both stags and hinds, great place to visit. I have spoken to thrumpster about the stags, but have not managed to firm up a trip. It is a long way but very much worth it, superb shooting. We have never bothered with the bird shooting there, but always see pheasants, grouse, ducks and geese, and at times an amazing number of woodcock and snipe. cheers dave
