TONY R
Sorry chris i meent is it best to have a guard with a belt, i tell you on the two snapped chains that went on the floor in more or less a straight line, i saw no need for a guard, if no passinger, but when i got hit on the leg by the BSAs chain i saw a need, i would have been hit a lot harder without that little abreviated alloy guard i can tell you. Its Belts and how they fly off i am thinking might make a guard a good asset. What do you all think re belts. ?
69chris
ahhhh got ya no idea how unfriendly a belt may be if it let go.......but i think if i started wondering about 'what ifs' id never ride a bike again as long as i lived lol !!!! Hendrix's rifle
Had three chain snaps 2 just leave the chain on the road, but one let go bunched up in the wheel and flew round hit me in the back of the leg, it was in old BSA 441. Dint half hurt. On the subject of breakages BELTS? what happens there then, are they dangerous if they let go? I have a bike with a belt i am buiolding now, was thinking a bout cutting the tabs off the swing arm for the guard running it guardless, but not sure, might just drill big holes in it loose a little weight that way and keep the look, what happens with belts anyone know. I've had 3 chains snap on my 525 mxc, one was just after I landed a big triple at 80mph in 6th so the helmet cam says... Dam that hurt! Smashed my rear hub and Thankfully bar a big bruise on my leg (even through my nice new mx boots) I got away relatively unscathed. I now run a small bar above the chain so if it does let go again I wont get it in the leg Id drill holes in your new one, definitely leave it on! A friend used to race supermoto and sports bikes had a big off on a practise day because his chain snapped and locked the rear wheel, shattered his left ankle when he hit the deck. Unfortunately due to his circumstances he ended up taking his life due to the injury and how it affected him. All because of no guard like I say, keep it on 👍
TONY R
I agree i am leaving the belt guard on just use a hole cutter drill it out in an even pattern, i can not imagine what a belt will do probably not as potentialy harmfull as a chain, but in truth i have no real idea, so ill leave it on be on the safe side.
