Daveo26
So.......... The coolant was due a change, had green coolant in. I initially thought it was blue buts it's a bit manky and definitely green Spoke to the dealer to find out what to put in as info is sketchy. Hand book says "Use a high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate type coolant" The dealer didn't know, referred me to a motor factors......... They weren't sure either and suggested blue coolant but It didn't mention no silicates. I settled on red stuff, seems to fit the requirements. I drained and flushed the system with water, Filled up and ran with water 3 times until all traces of green was gone. Then filled with a mixture of 50/50 red coolant and water. All very good. Iv run round in the car, got it up to temp, heater blowing hot etc Let it cool and checked the level. It was a horrible rusty colour not the delightful pink I put in. ***? It's really discoloured it looks terrible. Why has that happened? All I can think is the new coolant has acted like a detergent and cleared out any build up? Should leave it, change it or flush the system again? Help
bornfree
The old coolant has been left into long and lost its anti corrosion properties. So you have a large build up of sludge and rust. It won't do any harm but if you want to clear it you will need to use a cooling system cleaner/de scaler. Just flushing with water will never clear it.
