WeihrauchPower
My girlfriend has started working for Vic Roads (DVLA). She got chatting with a girl there and it turns out her parents own a farm and i can shoot there whenever. The best thing is it has a roo culling licence! I'm not sure how big the property is but there aren't many smaller then 200-300 acres here. So it looks like i'll be able to harvest a few skippys! They've been teasing me for weeks now in the forests! Not a great fan of the meat though. I've been cooking it alot at work and it's nothing special. Well that puts my permissions upto about 1000 acres + this new property! All i need now is the time off work!

Is there a lot of regulation and does it vary in different parts of the country?

Is there a lot of regulation and does it vary in different parts of the country? I can only speak for Victoria (there are slightly different laws in different states). Fairly similar to the U.K in some ways, closer to America in others. You don't ever need land granted as safe (Vic anyway). There are different classes of firearm: A: air rifles rimfire rifles other than self loading shotguns other than pump action or self loading shotgun and rimfire rifle combinations. B: muzzle loading firearms centrefire rifles other than self loading shotgun and centrefire rifle combinations. Oh! And semi autos are illegal! You can obtain a juniors licence which allows the use of firearms under upervision from the age of 12. You can obtain a full licence form the age of 18! I found the process very easy. The whole process took 4 months I'm sure copies of letters from the U.K and B.A.S.C helped. Your first permit to aquire takes 28 days and after that 1 week. You can obtain a category H licence (pistols/handguns ) as long as you are a member of a shooting club (handguns). You must attend the club and shoot in competitions at least once a month (something like that). The only thing i've found annoying is that moderators are illegal! I can buy a Desert Eagle in .50! But can't put a silencer on an air rifle!
Suffolk shooter
When I was out there in September last year I called in to the sports shop in Gosford, NSW and just passed the time of day with the owners looking over theguns and ammo at the back and compering notes between here and there. I asked about moderators and was told the same, they won't allow anyone to have them. Thing that made me laugh though were the large amount of compound bows and crossbows for shooting the feral pigs and goats with. I suppose other than the whole sniper thing, no need to worry about noise as there normally isn't anyone within a hundred k's of you when you go BUSH. I just go along to any one of three great gun shops that are all within a 10 minute walk  . It's great having so many shops so close. An hours drive takes you too some supersize gunshops in Colac and Geelong. I've looked into the moderators and it seems you can get them! If you shoot Starlings for a living!
