tulkyuk
Hi, Does anybody out there know the correct torque setting for tightening the ring screws on a set of optiloc rings - or any set of rings for that matter Cheers in advance Paul
Hunter
My general rule: Nip tight, + half a turn. I always apply Loctite to secure the bolts in position. Good thing about Optilocks etc is the plastic ring covering the scope, virtually eliminates marking the scope. Most people get it wrong and put this plastic ring onto the scope, with the opening up or down. The small gap in the plastic ring is for a purpose, it must be positioned lever (horizontal) to the gap between the ring top and base mount. This is made so that when you bolt it down, the plastic ring applies even pressure, 360 degrees around the scope tube. Even in the gunshop most of the staff do this But then again every detail like this matters to me, because I only have confidence in my weapon setup when its assembled and mechanicly sound. It is hard to break the thread on good mounts, they are made of quality matiriel. I tend to go back and forth over the bolts tightening them like wheel nuts on a car. Keeping the pressure even on each side of the scope so you do not twist the scope after you have set it just right. Needles to say, when I fit a scope properly, I take anything up to half an hour but I get the X hairs dead level with the bore. (sorry rambling on now to a simple qeustion )
