Highlander
At the moment the farming community is living a quiet nightmare what with FMD & now in Suffolk we have BTD. This is all very serious and could be the last straw for many in the farming and related communities. We know who’s responsible certainly for FMD and with this government’s ability to only react to situations AFTER they’ve got out of hand I’d say BTD should also be laid firmly at their door. They’ve known for 2-3 years that BTD was likely to come to the UK but chose to live in hope that what stopped Hitler in 1939/40 would work in our favour again i.e. Le Manche. Don’t they know that midges can fly! So knowing who’s to blame is one thing but what will be done about it? Can’t see this lot paying out large compensation unless a class action is taken out and that’s gonna take years. Problem is do they care? No they don’t! IMO they’d be quite happy for the countryside to disappear under concrete and all the people who live there to move onto housing estates. Anything, in this governments eyes, that accelerates the demise of farming and the countryside is probably a good thing. ********! With zero payments for set aside this period and late (very late) subsidy payments it would seem DEFRA is short of money so the likelyhood of anyone getting compensated for FMD or BTD is highly unlikely even allowing that they might accept responsibility...oops there go 69 squadron the flying pigs!
