lazza
We had decided to take a look around on Friday night. It has been a bit foggy lately and we were hoping it would hold off for an hour or so. By the time I got to the estate the fog had come down and loads of expletives about the weather were exchanged. It was decided the lamping was a none starter. The gamekeeper asked if I'd go with him to have a look around and then we'd call it a day. I said yes, I got in the truck with my gun and away we went. As we moved up to the higher ground the fog started to disappear, so we started to lamp the ground . I remember thinking that I really should jump on the back of the van in case we saw a fox, but the heater was on and I was quite comfortable so I decided against it We carried on lamping and sure enough we picked up a fox He was a good, ooo....... 20 YARDS AWAY In the words of Victor Meldrew " I don't believe it!" My gun was beside me so I picked it up and slipped a bullet in, flicked the scope covers open and rested the gun on the wing mirror. This was quite difficult, as the folded down bipod kept slipping on the wing mirror and it felt really awkward shooting from the passenger side window. The process had probably only taken a few minutes , but it felt like forever and by the time I got the scope to my eye the fox had trotted off a further 60 yards or so. I was following him in the scope and he stopped. Unfortunately I couldn't move the front of the rifle around that fraction of an inch because the door pillow was in the way. Thinking back, I should have shifted around in the seat, but I had found it hard enough to get steady as it was. I politely asked the keeper to swing out a bit and picked him up again. The fox was steadily moving away and I guessed him to be around the 100 yard mark. I knew if I didn't get a shot at him fairly quickly, the van would have to be moved again. I asked for the squeak and got it. He stopped and I tried to position the shot to his chest. Again the front pillar was blocking the movement I could see the middle of his body and did it. He dropped on the spot with a shot straight into the gut. :( I went back and picked him up on Saturday morning. He was about 120 yards away. Here he is
