Do you have a load for 139g - 6.5??

Recommended Posts

Guys today I bought 100 Lapua 6.5/ 139g/ HPBT which I hope to use for deer stalking.

I have the "Modern Reloading manual by Lee"

I have H-Varget extreme power, PROBLEM, there is no load data for 6.5 with 139g in Varget.

My question:

Do any of you have a load for Varget power with a 6.5 x 139g HPBT???

Have a look at the hodgdon website.

http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp

I had a quick look at 6.5x55 and it comes in at 32 to 36 grains for 140 gr bullets, but I dont know exactly which 6.5 calibre that you have.

go surfin

I can get loads for 140g but not 139g with Varget power. There are some loads for 139g in the Lee manual but with different powers.

I shoot a 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser - Pro-Hunter steyr

Big Dog,

you are worried over 1 grain of weight in the bullet head  . As the bullet weight goes lower, the powder weight generally increases. So increase the loads stated on the Hodgdon website by .5 of a grain or so.

Why are you using Varget?

6.5 are renouned to work better with slower powders.

Hope this helps.

jingzy I have taken the first step in resolving my problem.

I will keep the Varget for my .222 Rem

I have just bought H4831 for my 6.5x55 SM.

I hope to load some up at the weekend so I will come back to this post when I have some results.

In the mean time thanks for your comment and support.

My mate (how many posts start like that :/ ) uses Varget in his .223 and then uses it for his 6.5, but only up to 120grn.

For larger rounds like 140grn and 160grn he uses Reloader 19, as jingzy says you need a slow burner for 6.5x55.

Have a look at this for comparisons on burn rate:
